Otter Lake Campground FAQ
Q: What is your cancellation policy?
A: As of January 1st, 2016, the one night deposit will be nonrefundable regardless of when the reservation was placed. Please email (email@example.com) or call 855-723-3662 to cancel a reservation. Lack of cancelling a reservation will result in being charged for the full duration of the reservation.Q:
Q: Does the campground have quiet hours?
Yes, here at Otter Lake Campground we have quiet hours from 11pm-7am. After 11pm, all radios must be off and while you sit and enjoy your campfire, we ask that you are quiet and respectful to your fellow campers. We do have 24/7 courteous hours to ensure that everyone has a pleasant camping experience.
Q: Do you have free Wi-Fi?
A: Yes, we do offer free Wi-Fi, you will not need a password to connect to it. However, keep in mind that we are located in the middle of the Hiawatha National Forest which means the range is limited.
Q: Do sites have a picnic table and fire pit?
A: Yes, every site comes with a picnic table and fire pit for your use.
Q: Do you have boats for rent?
A: Yes, we do have kayaks, paddle boats, row boats, and canoes available for rent to use on our lake. The are $5 for the hour or $15 for the day. When you rent out the boats for the day, you are able to use whichever boats are available near the dock for a 24 hour period.
Q: Do you have to wear a life jacket?
A: Yes, people 16 years old and under are required to wear a personal flotation device on the lake at all times. People older than 16 must have a personal flotation device with them when using the lake. Personal flotation devices are available at the campground. Failure to comply with the life jacket policy will result in not being able to access the lake from campground property. Also, feel free to swim in our lake, however, there is no lifeguard on duty so please swim at your own risk.
Q: Do you allow Walk-On Campers?
A: Walk-on campers are always welcome, however, this does not mean that there will always be a site available. Please call ahead to check availability, or to make a reservation to guarantee a site.
Q: Do you allow pets on the campground?
A: We at Otter Lake enjoy having our pets and your pets on the property, but please keep in mind that owners are responsible for cleaning up after their pets, ensuring that all pets are kept on a leash, and that the campground is not a doggy daycare so pets should travel with their owners. This will prevent pets from making excessive noise when the owners are not present.
Q: Do you have wood available for purchase on your campground/can we bring our own wood?
A: Local firewood is allowed to be brought into the campground, but must be from within the county per DEQ regulations. Firewood and kindling are available for purchase at Otter Lake Campground.
Q: Is it possible that our site may be different than what was reserved for us?
A: When we reserve a site, we do everything in our power to ensure that you are on the site that is reserved for your visit, however, on a rare occasion due to circumstances outside of our control or due to reservation conflicts, we may need to alter the site. Otter Lake Staff will make every effort to notify you of any change to your reservation.
Q: Do we need to make a deposit to secure our reservation?
A: All reservations require a one night deposit per site being reserved. Deposits are taken by using the PayPal link provided. If the reservation is made online, please pay the deposit within three days to guarantee your reservation. If a deposit is not made, the reservation will be cancelled.
Q: Why does my emailed receipt have an Illinois address?
A: Don’t be confused! We are located in Munising, MI, however, the owner lives in Illinois so that is where the transaction was processed.
Q: When can we check into our campsite?
A: Check-in time is any time between 1 pm and 9:30pm. For early check-in, please consult with Otter Lake Staff via phone or email to see if it is possible. Feel free to arrive early and enjoy the property, but unless confirmed with campground staff, the site may not be available until 1 pm.
Q: When can we check out of our campsite?
A: Check-out time is before 12 pm (noon). For late check-out, please consult with Otter Lake Staff to see if it is possible.
Q: When can we check in/out of the Black Bear Lodge?
A: Check-in is at 3 pm and check-out is at 10 am. Please check out our lodge page to find more information.
Q: What is the Black Bear Lodge Cancellation Policy?
A: The $250 security deposit is refunded back as long as there are no damages/extensive messes left. The Lodge payment is due 8 weeks prior to your stay. If you cancel before 8 weeks before your stay, a full refund of the security deposit is given back. If you cancel between 4 weeks and 8 weeks, 50% of your payment and the full security deposit will be refunded back, and if you cancel with less than 4 weeks notice, no refund of the payment will be given unless we rent the lodge, however, the security deposit will be refunded back in full.
